Meet the Providers

Lexington Women’s Health is comprised of five board certified obstetrician-gynecologists supported by an experienced and well trained team of medical professionals.  We work as a team to attend to each of our patients as if they were our sisters, friends or neighbors. We have experience, both professional and personal, to help you through almost any situation.  Chances are, whatever you face, we’ve been there. 


Doctor Cunningham

 

Emily Cunningham, M.D. is a native Lexingtonian who graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in 1993. After a residency program at the University of Texas Southwestern, she stayed in Dallas as an assistant professor at the University of Texas for an additional 4 years.  Although she enjoyed the teaching of residents, medical students, and midwives, her heart is in Kentucky. She and her family returned to Lexington, where she has been in private practice since 2001. Her interests include pediatric and adolescent gynecology, high risk and routine obstetrics, and family centered care.


Doctor Fuson


Jennifer Fuson, M.D., FACOG
, is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology.  She graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine in 1994 and completed her residency training at the University of South Carolina in 1998.  She is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American Board of OB/GYN.  She has a special interest in helping women have a healthy pregnancy and birth.  She has 12 years of experience in pelvic and obstetric ultrasound diagnosis. She loves helping patients with PCOS, excessive bleeding and pelvic pain achieve the best possible outcomes medically or surgically with minimally invasive approaches.  She is especially interested in helping her patients learn about the variety of options that are often available for any given condition.


Doctor Tarter

Jeanne O’Nan, M.D. was born in Henderson, Kentucky. She graduated from Murray State University before completing medical school and residency at the University of Kentucky in 1999. She has been on several international medical mission trips including Kenya, St. Lucia, Argentina, and Honduras and is currently on the board for La Cima World Missions. She also enjoys being involved with the AA Crisis Pregnancy Center as their medical director. She and her husband have three children including a set of twins. Her husband is in residency at UK in anesthesia. 

She became board certified in OB/GYN in 2001. She enjoys the variety that OB/GYN offers but has particular interests in laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgery, twin pregnancies, infertility, and preventative care. 


Doctor Mitchell


Leah Mitchell, M.D.
is from Louisville, KY. She graduated from Centre College and the University of Kentucky College of Medicine.  She completed her OB/GYN residency training at the University of Kentucky.  Before joining Lexington Women’s Health, Dr. Mitchell practiced at the University of California-Davis in Sacramento, CA and at the Women’s Care Center in Lexington, KY.  Her medical interests include obstetrics and general gynecology such as management of abnormal uterine bleeding, abnormal pap smears, and infertility.  Away from the hospital, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children as well as swimming, exercising, and reading.


Doctor Tarter


Melissa Courtney, A.R.N.P
graduated from University of Kentucky in 2004 as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner.  Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, she worked as a registered nurse in the field of OB/GYN since 1996.   She is currently completing her studies in Nurse-Midwifery at the University of Cincinnati.  Her goal as a healthcare provider is to provide care that stands out by taking the time to really listen, fully educate, and work in partnership with women across the lifespan to achieve their specific personal health goals.  Outside of her professional life, she leads a happily chaotic life, along with her husband, attending their three children’s school and sporting events.  Quiet reading time and Key West sunsets are always welcomed moments in her life.  


Doctor Allen



Kathryn Allen, PA-C
, is originally from Chesapeake, OH. After graduating from Marshall University with a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology, she moved to Lexington KY. Kathryn graduated from the University of Kentucky with a M.S. in exercise physiology in 2000. Graduate research included the effects of exercise during pregnancy and prevention of osteoporosis with diet and exercise. She returned to the University of Kentucky in 2004 and completed a M.S. in Physician Assistant Studies in 2006. Her interests include preventative care and education of patients for a healthy pregnancy. She is married to a Lexington native and has one son, Carter.
