Pelvic pain can be a challenging problem for any woman. Whether chronic or acute, significant pelvic pain deserves a full evaluation. Possible causes include:
Endometriosis
Adenomyosis
Ovulation
Ovarian cysts
Irritable bowel syndrome
Interstitial cystitis
Urinary tract infection
Kidney stones
Adhesions
Musculoskeletal problems
Pelvic infection
Appendicitis
Diverticulitis
Evaluation usually includes a physical exam, pelvic ultrasound and urinalysis; cervical cultures, laparoscopy, cystoscopy and colonoscopy are sometimes required as well.
